How Packgate Works

From signup to value in 3 steps

1

Know Your Edge

Identify the device standing between your network and the internet and what rules it currently enforces.

2

Tighten the Rules

Close what you don't use, disable risky conveniences like UPnP, and log what knocks on the door.

3

Test From Outside

Scan your own public address the way an attacker would and confirm the gate holds.

Frequently Asked

Is my home router a firewall?

Yes, in a basic way. NAT plus a default stateful firewall blocks unsolicited inbound connections. The common weaknesses are old firmware, UPnP opening ports silently, and remote admin left enabled.

What is the difference between a gateway and a firewall?

A gateway is the routing role — the device traffic must pass to leave the network. A firewall is the filtering role. Most edge devices do both jobs in one box.

Should I open ports for gaming or cameras?

Open the narrowest rule possible: one port, one internal device, and prefer VPN access over exposing cameras directly. Anything listening on the open internet gets scanned within minutes.
